What to Wear for a Photoshoot

When it comes to a portrait photography a choice of clothing plays a huge role. So, “What to Wear?” It’s one of the most often asked questions when you plan to have a family or a portrait photo session.

It DOES NOT have to be:

  • “match-matchy” Don’t focus on matching everything; it’s neither interesting nor look good on photos
  • “expensive” or “fancy” Unless you always look that way. If you don’t usually wear that kind of clothing, don’t feel obligated to so for your photo session
  • “brand new” It’s Ok to pull something like ripped jeans and a cool shirt from your closed if you can rock them during the photo session.
  • “stressful” You don’t have to worry about every single item and detail because it suppose to be fun time

It HAS TO:

  • “Feel Good” and comfortable during the fun time of the photo session. You may be asked to sit/lay on the ground/log/stump (etc.) or other interesting activities (like climbing a tree or put your feet in a water, etc), so you may want to choose the close according to this type of sessions.
  • “Look Good” It’s great if your looks (for group/family shoots) will be color coordinated. Sometimes outfits that look good in the mirror might not be ideally suited for photography.
  • “Make Sense” which means it has to fit your location and the desired feel and mood of your portraits. If you are unsure of what to choose and how to put everything together, you should always ask you photographer whose best interest is in you and your portrait sessions.

The idea is to look coordinated and cohesive, which will always look better on photos than uncoordinated look. The best color combination is to have something neutral along with the color pop: one or two that will harmonize with each other.
